About Us

The very first Harbour Town began an outlet shopping revolution. Opened in December 1999 at Biggera Waters, Gold Coast, it was the first and largest purpose-built, brand direct outlet shopping centre in Australia. In fact, Harbour Town Gold Coast remains the nation’s largest outlet shopping centre.

In 1999, outlet shopping was already a phenomenon in the United States and Europe - but in Australia, factory outlets were scattered, isolated warehouse-style operations, only appealing to the most dedicated bargain hunter.

Harbour Town began a new era for the value-conscious shopper. In a brand new concept for Australia, top brands opened stylish, beautifully appointed outlet stores, selling quality merchandise in an entertaining atmosphere. Bargain shopping had never been so much fun!

And it is not only shoppers who have been impressed. Harbour Town has been recognised with a string of international and Australian commercial property, shopping industry and tourism awards.

Final call for unwanted Christmas gifts

MEDIA RELEASE

17 January 2012

An iPod Nano, wok, body lotions and piles of toys are just some of the hundreds of unwanted Christmas gifts people have dropped off at Harbour Town Shopping Centres around the country as Australia’s first Christmas Gift Amnesty – benefiting the St Vincent de Paul Society – enters its final week.

Launched on Boxing Day, generous Australians have donated goods totalling tens of thousands of dollars at Harbour Town centres located in Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide and on the Gold Coast. The Amnesty was created in response to the more than $750 million in unwanted Christmas gifts that were either sold, exchanged or regifted last year.

“The simplest way to solve the dilemma of what to do with unwanted Christmas gifts is to bring them in to a Harbour Town shopping centre where they will be donated to St Vincent de Paul Society and put to good use,” Rebecca Young from St Vincent de Paul says.

“We are thrilled with the amount of goods that have been received so far, and people have until Sunday 22 January to free up their cupboard and donate that gift they don’t really need.”

Goods collected by St Vincent de Paul will either be given to people directly or sold through their stores to raise funds for valuable programs in area such as Homelessness, Mental Health and Youth. All appropriate items, excluding electrical items and used goods, will be accepted.

St Vincent de Paul Society volunteers helped approximately 520,000 people this Christmas and the Society spent $17.3 million helping people those in need over the festive season.

The St Vincent de Paul Society helps many thousands of people through Home Visits, Migrant and Refugee Assistance, Vinnies Centres, Accommodation for the Homeless, Overseas Partnership Development, School and Youth Programs, Soup Vans, Social Justice Advocacy and Mental Health Programs.

Harbour Town National Marketing and Tourism Manager Angela Gore said Harbour Town was delighted to help the St Vincent de Paul Society carry out its important work.

“January is the perfect opportunity to drop off that Christmas gift to Harbour Town that didn’t quite hit the mark. The gift may not be to your taste or fit properly but will be greatly appreciated by St Vincent de Paul Society,” Ms Gore said.

Unwanted Christmas gifts can be dropped off at designated Christmas Gift Amnesty collection areas located inside Harbour Town VIP lounges in Adelaide, Perth, Melbourne and on the Gold Coast until Sunday 22 January. Visit www.harbourtown.com.au for locations and more information.

For those looking to donate second-hand items, the nearest Vinnies drop off point can be found at www.vinnies.org.au.

*Electrical items cannot be collected due to safety regulations.

Tourism Award Honour for Harbour Town Gold Coast

Harbour Town Gold Coast is proud to have been named a finalist in the prestigious 2011 Queensland Tourism Awards announced this week. (Friday, November 4, 2011).

Nominated in the ‘Specialised Tourism Services’ category, Queensland’s first and largest outlet shopping centre joined an eclectic line-up in the section, including two spas and the winning Whitsunday wedding venue, Villa Botanica.

“It is a wide and diverse category, which often sees unrelated businesses judged side by side,” said Harbour Town centre manager Gary Webb.

“Entry in our category is open to everyone from souvenir retailers and shopping precincts to airports, computer information systems, even language and interpreter services.

“Harbour Town Gold Coast is delighted to join such a stellar line-up in the State’s peak industry awards, especially as we are the only tourism retail business honoured this year.”

Mr Webb congratulated all winners, especially fellow Gold Coast tourist mecca, Sea World, which won the ‘Major Tourist Attractions’ category, and the 2010 Gold Coast Airport Marathon which won its category and was inducted into the awards Hall of Fame.

Harbour Town Gold Coast’s 2011 achievement continues a proud record that has seen the centre named a finalist or winner in the annual Queensland Tourism Awards on seven occasions since 2003.

“The achievement belongs to every outlet, store, café and service provider who together make Harbour Town such a colourful, exciting and ever-changing destination for our domestic and international visitors,” Mr Webb said.

Top-Shelf Result for Harbour Town Adelaide at Retail Awards

Harbour Town Adelaide is celebrating after taking out two hotly-contested categories at the Property Council of Australia (SA Division) Retail Property Awards 2011.

Announced at a gala dinner at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on Saturday night, Harbour Town took out the Presentation and Marketing Campaign awards for centres 20,000-35,000sqm.

“Harbour Town Adelaide is thrilled to have been recognised and awarded at the shopping centre industry’s night-of-nights,” Harbour Town Adelaide Marketing Manager Melanie Arthur says.

“The awards are testament to our tireless efforts in marketing Harbour Town as Adelaide’s best, family-friendly retail shopping experience and to all employees which help make the centre such a beautiful place to visit.”

There were 64 entries in this year’s awards which recognise innovation and excellence by shopping centre property owners and managers throughout South Australia.

Throughout the past 12 months, Harbour Town has invested in a new marketing and branding campaign There’s no town like it. Created in conjunction with Adelaide advertising agency JAMshop, the campaign centres on a fictional town set on a harbour, with its architecture consisting of enormous shopping bags that display retail offerings and appear as buildings to form a city skyline.

Harbour Town upgraded facilities in the centre including a new children’s playground and refurbished parent’s rooms.

With more than 100 outlets to choose from – including big names such as Sheridan, CUE, Country Road, Esprit, Simone Perele, JAG, Colorado, Kathmandu, Smiggle and Toyworld – there is something for everyone at Harbour Town.

Conveniently located only 15 minutes from the city and 10 minutes from Glenelg at 727 Tapleys Hill Road, West Beach, Harbour Town is serviced by numerous buses and has free parking. The Centre is open every day (excluding Christmas, New Year’s Day and Good Friday).
